Downtown Salt Lake City

The oldest district in Salt Lake City, Utah. The grid from which the entire city is laid out originates at Temple Square, the location of the historic Salt Lake City Temple. Concerts, restaurants, theatres, and conventions are only a few of the highlights of down town.

Mormon Temple and Tabernacle

The largest (of more than 120) and best-known temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Salt Lake Temple is the centerpiece of the 10 acre Temple Square. Although there are currently no public tours inside the temple (because it is considered sacred by the church and its members, a temple recommend is required), the temple grounds are open to the public and are a popular tourist attraction.

The Tabernacle was built between 1864 and 1867 west of the Salt Lake Temple. The building has a sandstone foundation, and the dome is supported by forty-four sandstone piers. The overall seating capacity of the building is 8,000, which includes the choir area and gallery (balcony).

It has seven roller coasters, two of which are unique; one of these being 'Colossus: the Fire Dragon,' which is one of only two remaining Schwartzkopf Double Looping coasters still in operation. Lagoon is divided into five main areas: The Midway, containing a majority of the rides, a Pioneer Village which has several exhibits displaying pioneer buildings and artifacts, Lagoon-A-Beach, a water park which is included in the regular admission price, Kiddie Land with several rides for small children, and the X-Venture Zone featuring more extreme rides that cost extra. Lagoon also offers a full-service RV park, a campground, and a shaded walking trail outside the park that stays open all year.

Kennecott Copper Mine

Kennecott Utah Copper Mine is the world's largest open pit mine, and the largest man-made excavation. A Visitor Center inside the mine itself features informative exhibits and videos and allows you to observe operations of the mine. You might even catch a blast as miners work nearby! Now 2,000 feet above the bottom of the mine, the Visitors Center offers an incredible view and allows visitors to take part in interactive displays and exhibits, including 3-D microscopes to examine rock and mineral samples, and a display of how copper is used in everyday life. You can also see exhibits including old mining artifacts and model trucks. The mine is 20 minutes southwest of Best Western Executive Inn.
